Of late we are observing a huge change in Indian society: the profession of medicine is kind of losing much of the ‘prestige’ it has been used to for centuries. While this is not a huge cause for worry (after all, the world around is rapidly changing in every sense), the fact that Indian health professionals have to suffer from abuse and violent attacks more frequently now is worrisome.
But the reaction of the Indian medical community to this challenging situation has been immature and far from satisfactory. I wrote an article as a response to the growing frustration among Indian doctors and to the inappropriate ways some of us are employing to express our anger at our growing professional insecurity.
Here is the article, which was published in India Medical Times.
